Been doing any spring cleaning? Looks like it's the time of year again for doing stuff like that -- The perfect time to sit back and review how the year's been going thus far. Tweak, adjust and update plans and resolutions made at the beginning of the year. Fix any mistakes. Implement new changes and improvements to our business. For the past week, I've been taking stock of all the design projects I've done this year and reviewing our customer feedback. I've spruced up many of our design packages... and I've also updated/upgraded some of the programs I use to create my designs. Some of my new Photoshop plug-ins are awesome and I'm now able to do some pretty nifty design tricks with them. I feel like a kid with new toys. Oooh. Seventh heaven. I always feel like I'm in my happiest space when I'm immersed in creative work. Today, I'd love to share with you some recent design work I've done for a couple of my new clients... and I'd also like to show you the design packages I've put together for you. So do read on... Life Happens...Hi My apologies for not being able to write last Monday as promised. With my illness and a new drama which emerged as a result of certain irregularites over the Chess tournament, I found myself in a tough space. On the one hand, eMasters had just begun to turn around and we found we had a little more breathing space with income slightly ahead of overheads. And then there was Mark, who had dedicated himself to doing well in Chess this year, and that has been more than a 3-year journey. One incident tipped the balance; Mark was threatened by an official and I found myself tested again. The threat was if Mark wanted to represent the state, then he needed submit to "their control". Now this person has no direct tie to the state, but is involved in chess. So who he was referring to is a little ambiguous. But the threat sounded ominous enough for me to take heed. Let me try to recount what went through my head. First was priorities. What would happen if I dropped the ball on eMasters now after all the hard work? My "unscheduled" illness has already knocked me back a week. How would I feel if I didn't stand by my son during his time of need? What is my inner child telling me? Do I have enough faith that all will turn out alright? I had to contend with my anxieties, fears and a little paranoia. Is there a higher power working in all this? An aside: For every month since we took the stand in December, money has flowed in from the most unexpected places; orders from new clients (often at the last moment) who found us from search engines, to tip the balance over orders from our own efforts. Is that enough evidence of a higher power in play? Then there was Mark. What would I be telling him if I looked aside? That it is OK to let others steal his efforts and dreams? That he is not important enough for me to get over my own dramas and lend a hand in a battle that needs to take place in the adult world for resolution? Let me define battle here since I have had some negative feedback to this word. My definition of battle is the battle of ideas. Between fear and courage. Between ideas that build and ideas that destroy. Between ideas that take us to our goals and ideas that do not. And would taking a stand create a bigger problem? And what would that stand look like? One that is neither from anger or from fear. Neither a predator or a victim. How would a resolute stand that needed to be imbued with graciousness be brought about. And then there was Mark and Shoi to consider. How would Shoi feel if I took another week to settle this issue? After all, she is in charge of daily operations and keeping eMasters on track. How does Mark feel about the issue? Does he think it can be solved another way? Is there another way to solve this? What are the attributes of a good chess player? I think it is the ability to trust our own judgement, to have the courage to stand against a tough opponent, to learn to pay the price for success, not to hesitate when opportunities present themselves, etc. So we sat down and discussed this. And we agreed that the cost of not making a stand outweighed the cost to our spirit if we walked away. So I spent a whole week gathering the evidence and presented my case to the powers that be. Hopefully I managed to see clearly the issues at hand as there were many different perceptions and many issues were covered up, distorted, and I think finally some consensus was achieved in my meetings. There were benefits too. Over the last week I have learnt (again) that there are decent people who will stand up and be counted. People who stood witness for my case. And that sometimes, conflict can be the precursor to something better. But it was exhausting with my energy low from my bronchial infection. Since I'm 2 weeks off track now I hope you won't mind if I carry on the series to "Inner Child - Spirituality & Business" this way... I won't be responding to the questions that have been put to me. I also won't be writing the section on "the perspective of entrepreneurs" separately -- What I will do is to start on the eBook directly and finish everything there. I believe that the answers to the questions posed will also be in the completed work, so I hope you'll bear with me.
